Nigeria Military intercepts a Wooden Boat, Over 600 Smuggle Foreign Rice From Cameroon

  By Aviashima Toom The Armed Forces of Nigeria says it troops of Operations CALM WATERS and SWIFT RESPONSE coordinated by the Nigerian Navy, has intercepted a wooden boat, seized over 600 bags of parboiled foreign rice, including other item belonging to smugglers. In a statement signed by the Acting Director Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General BENARD Onyeuko, said the Nigerian Navy Ship VICTORY anti- smuggling team intercepted and arrested the wooden boat laden with 601x 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice suspected to be smuggled from the Republic of Cameroon and 4 suspected smugglers at Agbami Platform.  He said the items were recovered and suspects also arrested have  already been handed over to the Department of Marine Police, Calabar, for further investigations and possible prosecution. Gen. Onyeuko explained that following the cancellation of Exercise OBANGAME EXPRESS  2020 which was scheduled to hold from 21 – 26 Mar 20 due to the global spread of COVID-19

Gov. Ortom Inaugurates LG COVID-19 C’MTTEES, Demands Greater Awareness.

By Dennis Asom Benue state Governor ,Samuel Ortom Tuesday inaugurated Local Government Action Committees on Coronavirus with a charge on members to ensure adequate awareness creation at the local government level. Performing the ceremony at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi, Governor Ortom said the COVID-19 pandemic requires all hands to be on deck to prevent its spread, stressing that the sensitization must go to the hinterlands in order to save lives. He expressed optimism that the council chairmen who are also chairmen of the Action Committees at that level would collaborate with traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders to drive the campaign on prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Governor expressed his readiness to submit a sample of his blood for testing and promised to make the result public after the test, even as he urged his deputy to do same to be sure of his status. NCDC Confirms 20 New Cases Of COVID-19

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control on Monday night confirmed twenty new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria. According to a tweet from the NCDC, 13 cases were discovered in  Lagos, four in the FCT, two in Kaduna and one in Oyo State As at 09:00 pm 30th March there are 131 confirmed cases of COVID19 reported in Nigeria with 2 death Details Shortly…….

Lockdown: Your ID Card is Your Pass, Minister Tells Journalists

By Aviashima Toom journalists and other media practitioners in Lagos and Ogun states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been advised to use their valid Identity Cards to access their places of work and assignment venues during the 14-day lockdown directed by the President in the two states and the FCT. In a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the President, Office of The Minister of Information and Culture, Segun Adeneyi in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the clarification becomes necessary in view of the inadequate time to properly accredit working journalists in the affected states and the FCT during the period. He said members of the media are expected to continue to provide essential services during the lockdown, in order to keep Nigerians well updated on the COVID-19 pandemic.

UK Returnee Declared Positive For Coronavirus In Benue Cries Out, Says I’m Negative

A 54-year-old woman named Susan Okpe, who recently returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, has accused Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State of playing politics with her life. According to her, the Benue governor announced to the public that she had Coronavirus when the result of the test conducted on her was yet to be release. Okpe is pleading with President Muhammadu Buhari and the United Kingdom Government to rescue her from the state government. She said she is being abandoned at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital with no medical personnel attending to her for three days. Governor Ortom had on Saturday announced Okpe as Benue's first recorded case of Coronavirus. According to her family, Okpe, a British-Nigerian, arrived the country on Saturday, March 21, via Kenya Airways for the burial of her mother scheduled to hold in April. The Coordinator, Directorate of Media Operation, Major General, John Enenche, said the Nigerian Armed Force was ready to implement Presidential Directives of restriction on movement in the country. Gen. Enenche stated this during a media briefing at the Defence Headquarter on Monday, said the enforcement was in line with the Presidential Directive given by the President, Mohammadu Buhari during his address to the Nation on the COVID 19 Pandemic. He informed that a Committee headed by the Chief of Defence Training and Operations, Major General Leo Irabor, has been setup to interfaced with all relevant Ministries, departments and Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria in managing the COVID 19 Pandemic.
