pyramids in Borno state

- The rice pyramids were cultivated by the Borno state farmers association in collaboration with Walwanne and sons

president's efforts to boost agriculture in Nigeria
President Muhammadu Buhari would on
Tuesday, March 26, unveil three rice pyramids cultivated by the Borno state farmers association in collaboration with
Walwanne and sons limited under Dr. Abiso Kabir.

Reports indicated that a statement signed by the senior special adviser on
media to the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Alhaji Garba Dangida, said
the feat confirmed the commitment of the Buhari administration to his
campaign promises to reduce poverty
and boost agriculture.

According to the release, testified to the efforts of
the administration to stimulate increased
earnings from agriculture and diversify the economy from sole reliance on oil
accruals.

Dangida added that rice production is an evidence that peace is gradually
returning to the Northeast and economic and social activities are stepping up in the area.

Meamwhile, the minister of agriculture, Audu Ogbeh , on Tuesday, May 16, gave
reasons the imported rice is still more expensive than locally produced rice,
despite government efforts.

It was reported that Ogbeh, while responding to questions at a Town Hall
meeting in Abuja, said one of the major reasons was that most of the imported
rice was subsided by the foreign governments.
