Int'l Women's Day: Press Hard to Sustain
Progress, Dr. Mrs Ortom Charges Benue Women

As Benue state joins the rest of the world to mark
this year's International Women's Day Celebration,
Wife of the Governor of Benue State, Dr. (Mrs)
Eunice Ortom, has charged Benue Women to press
hard in other to sustain the tempo of progress
achieved.
Dr. Mrs. Ortom yesterday made the call to Benue
Women in reference to the theme of 2018
International Women's Day, ' # Press For Progress'
at the Dreams Centre where the event was hosted.
She challenged government at all levels to rise to
the global challenge of ensuring gender equality
and empowerment of all women and girls.
The Governor's Wife who was represented by the
Seniour Special Assistant to the Benue state
Governor on Administration and ICT, Hon. Daniel
Gbabo expressed the determination of the
Governor's Wife to continue to encourage Benue
women in trade, entrepreneurship and leadership
growth.
Hon. Gbabo submitted that the Governor's Wife
through her pet project the Eunice Spring of Life
Foundation (ESLF), has provided over two
thousand empowerment to Benue Women and
Youth through skill acquisition as well as the
facilitation of N100 million through the support of
the state government for disbursement through
Better Life Microfinance Bank to women after the
first Benue Women Economic Summit, to enhance
their level of self reliance.
He also maintained that the Governor's wife has
facilitated the registration of over 2000 Benue girls
for the University Tertiary Matriculation
Examination (UTME) with emphasis in Stem based
education.
Hon. Gbabo commended the state Government for
appointing women in key positions, putting in
place gender friendly policies and programmes and
advocated for more, while commending AHF
Nigeria for their collaboration with the Eunice
Spring of Life Foundation to give life to the sick
women
In his remark the Executive Secretary Benue state
Agency for the Control of AIDS (BENSACA) Dr.
Gideon Dura while answering questions during the
interactive session, stated that cases of women's
right violation can be reported to appropriate
quarters for action, while advising those with the
cases of HIV/AIDS diseases not to shy away from
going to the hospital to get their drugs.
