Bauchi Govt receives 190 Almajiris evacuated from Plateau

Bauchi State Government on Sunday received no frwer than 190 Almajiri pupils evacuated from Mangu Local Government Area of plateau state.

The Deputy Governor Senator Baba Tela while receiving the pupils at General Hassan Usman Katsina Unity College Bauchi, said the pupils would undergo medical screening and other necessary investigation before handover to their respective parents.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Bala Mohammed on Media, Muktar Gidado, made available Sahel Reporters.

According to the release, Senator Tels who is the Chairman of the Task Force , said accommodation had been made for the pupils until they would be declared safe to reunite with their parents.

He said the gesture was aimed at ensuring that, pupils were not infected with the CoronaVirus and called on islamic clerics to comply with the government on the ban on Almajiri system in the state.

“We have just received 190 Almajiris who are indigene of our state, what we intend is to verify their health condition is to ensure they are not infected with the deadly coronavirus before we release them to their parents,” he said

“This shows that, the policy of Almajiri will be enforced as all the Northern Governors have agreed on banning Almajiri activities in their respective states”

Tela used the medium to direct all Ulamas with Almajiris to with immediate effect, return them to their respective states, assuring that the state government will take care of their transportation.

” Henceforth, from tomorrow, Bauchi state government will commence evacuation of all Almajiri pupils to their various states of origin, ” he said

On the level of compliance on the partial lockdown of the state, the deputy governor said a Magistrate Court would be set up to ensure total adherence to the order.

According to him, the decision is to ensure compliance with the protocol of social distancing as part of effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in the state.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

From Aviashima Toom, Abuja  SAHEL ReportersNews: Benue State Government and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) have raised the alarm saying the rising water levels along the River Benue Basin have neared flooding any moment from now. Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said.
