CCB to Train Army Cadets on ethical Conduct, Assets Declaration.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has called on the officials of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to henceforth be participating in an orientation exercise for fresh Nigerian Army cadets who just graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

The COAS also want CCB officials to deliver papers at their induction programme, with a view to sensitizing the cadets on the importance of the assets declaration form and decent ethical conducts, among others.

Lt. Gen. Buratai spoke at a workshop on ‘Compliance with Assets Declaration and Code of Conduct for Nigerian Army Officers and Soldiers,’ in Abuja.

According to him, the Army, under his leadership, was desirous of maintaining the highest standard of accountability in the conduct of its activities, consistent with the requirements and behaviour of public officers, which conforms to highest standard of probity, public morality, transparency and accountability.

Buratai, explained that the Nigerian Army has fully complied with the requirements of the Bureau on public procurements, thus enhancing transparency and prudence in financial management.

On his part, Prof. Mohammed Isah, Chairman of CCB, who was represented by Prof. Samuel Ogundare, stressed the need for the COAS to build a robust ethical structure in the Nigerian Army, assuring that CCB will actively be involved in training exercises that will enlighten officers and men of the Army on assets declaration and ethical conducts expected of public officers.

According to him, the importance of moral conducts in public service cannot be overemphasised as it has become a norm and practice with Government and her public service all over the world.

He added that, this is why Nigeria would not be in an exception and Nigerian military (Nigerian army) as a a responsible, noble and honourable institution cannot be left out.

The CCB chairman therefore thanked the COAS for this laudable programme and further requested for more and enhanced partnership in the area of logistics and training of young officers and soldiers of NA especially at the recruitment level.

After the end of a 2 day’s programme with a theme ‘Compliance with Assets Declaration and Code of Conduct for Officers and Soldiers of Nigerian Army’, participants were expected to equip themselves with requisites and necessary knowledge on ethical conduct as it regards prudence management of resources devoid of corruptible tendencies.

The programme is organised by the department of Standards and Evaluation, Nigerian Army.
