...... Declare emergency on security, Benue NBA Urges FG

The Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed in the leadership of Nigeria.

Ortom stated this when the Makurdi branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, on Thursday, paid him a solidarity visit over the demise of Bar Moses Udam, his pregnant wife and two others who were gruesomely murdered by Fulani herdsmen few days ago in Makurdi.

Ortom, regretted that by any standard of judgment, the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed the nation in the vital area of improving its security. with massive social security worsening under his administration.

He said that, it is shocking that in spite of unprecedented consensus among Nigerians that the administration requires a new resolve, approach and leadership in the fight against the nation’s multiple security challenges, President Buhari appears either totally isolated or in deep denial over the result of his failures to secure Nigerians.
The Governor reiterated his call on the Federal Government to allow responsible Nigerians to own guns for self defence, stressing that if  the deceased lawyer had a means of protection, would have defended himself.

According to him, Nigerians must continue to raise their voices and organise through all legitimate means to demand that the administration address major failings in his perceptions security situation and his response to our demands for our rights to security

He stated that armed bandits had decided to target Livestock Guards and Agro Rangers who are preventing them from taking over the land in the guise of grazing, pointing out that it was painful for a young man with such prospects to be murdered in that manner.

Earlier, Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Makurdi Branch through its Chairman, Bar. Justine Gbagir called on the Federal Government to declare state of emergency on security in the country.

He called for the establishment of a Victims Support Commission empowered to cater and compensate victims of attacks in the country.

The NBA also called on the Federal Government to establish North Central Development Commission to rehabilitate parts of the region which have been affected by wanton destruction caused by marauding herdsmen and bandits.

The lawyers who expressed dismay over the death of their colleague Barrister Moses Udam and his pregnant wife said they would boycott courts on Monday, 21st December 2020 to mourn their departed member in addition to taking the FG to Court for neglecting its duty of protecting lives.

The NBA, according to its Chairman, also resolved to collaborate with Governor Ortom in his resolve to protect Benue people from attacks by marauding Fulani herdsmen.
