Over 320M Be Expended on Skills Acquisition, IDPs Support in Benue -UNDP

The United Nations Development Programme UNDP, with support from the Japanese governent is to expend N320 million to equip Benue youths with practical skills that can make them self reliant as well as support for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in Benue state.

Resident representative of the UNDP, Mr. Muhammed Yahaya, who announced this today during a courtesy call on Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi said N200 million has been earmarked for skills acquisition while N120 million would be invested to scale up access to livelihoods to communities affected by conflict including IDPs.

He explained that the funds when released, would also help Benue youths to acquire the requisite technology in all the Agriculture value chain with the aim of promoting participation in the sector that has the capacity to transform lives.

Mr. Yahaya said that when youths were given the opportunity to find innovative solutions to address challenges in the Agriculture value chain, it would ameliorate the risk of food insecurity, create jobs so as to justify Benue as the Agricultural hub of the nation.

He acknowledged the damage caused the global economy and Nigeria in particular by Coronavirus, stressing that for the first time since introduction in 1990, the Human Development Index is declining globally with corresponding rise in unemployment among other challenges.

Governor Samuel Ortom in a response, expressed gratitude to the UNDP resident representative and for particularly taking special interest in the condition of IDPs.

Governor Ortom pledged his administration's readiness to continually provide the needs of IDPs and Cameroonian refugees he noted were being camped somewhere in Kwande local government area.

He informed the UNDP representative that the state government has embraced the National Livestock Transformation Programme of the Federal Government with the hope that the policy would end herders - farmer conflict.

Residents of FCT Pass Vote of Confidence on Wike

From Aviashima Toom, Abuja Coalition of FCT Indigenous Groups and FCT Resident Associations has passed a vote of confidence on the  FCT Minister, Bar. Nyesom Wike. The group also  urged him to continue his good works in the nation’s capital, saying the original inhabitants and the entire people of FCT were solidly behind him. The convener of the group, Adeyeye Olugbenga, made the call during a peaceful rally at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Abuja, on Thursday.  The group called on President Bola Tinubu to ignore calls to remove Wike as the FCT Minister. Hybrid Solar Panel Factory Soon To Take Off in Makurdi

From Aviashima Toom The Benue State Government has entered into partnership with the Shanghai Haitian Hospital, to facilitate academic and clinical interchange between Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, in the areas of joint studies, training activities, and other educational exchanges of mutual interest. The government has also entered into partnership with Sinoki System Limited, for the establishment of a Hybrid Solar Panel Factory in Benue State. Signing the two Memorandums of understandings (MOUs) at the Old Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House, Makurdi on Monday, Governor Hyacinth Alia said he was excited and optimistic that the partnerships will open many more doors of investments in the State, adding that his administration is willing to welcome more investors into the state.
