Konshisha Crises: Youths Appeal for Military Presence to Forestall Further Loss of Lives

By Reporter
Igede Youths have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the redeployment of troops to the disputed boundary between Bonta and Ukpute in Konshisha and Oju Local Government Areas (LGAs), Benue to forestall further loss of lives and property.

The Igede Youth made the appeal through its Spoke man, Mr Thomas Ogar on Sunday while briefing newsmen in Makurdi.

Ogar stated that the crisis between the two communities started in June 2020, stressing that since then to date so many lives and property were lost.

“But with the redeployment of the troops at the disputed boundary peace will be restored.

“Also, a military or security post should be established at the boundary to tame the killings and destruction of lives as well as property.

“The president should also mandate Gov. Samuel Ortom to deploy all internal security measures to ensure the immediate reopening of the Aliade-Awajir-Oju road,” he said.

He disclosed that the road was the only major road that linked the people of Oju LGA to Makurdi, the State Headquarters of Benue.

“The road remained closed since July 2020. This has worsened the plight of the Igede people in accessing Makurdi the State capital,” he said.
