Gov. Ortom Encourages Benue youths to venture into artisanship

By Our Reporter

The Benue state Governor. Samuel Ortom has encouraged the youths in the state to undertake various trainings in artisanship in order to create employment and wealth for themselves.

Ortom gave the advice on Wednesday during the 2021 Industrial Training Fund (ITF) interactive forum with stakeholders organised by the Fund's Makurdi Area Office.

The governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Cooperatives, Mr Apir Ityu, said that acquisition of skills in artisanship was the most sure way that could help the youths to be gainfully employed thereby creating wealth for themselves.

"Since white collar jobs are not forthcoming, skills acquisition remains the major area that can help the society to reduce unemployment.

"I am happy that ITF is doing very well in this regard.

"I will continue to partner and assist the Fund in order to make the country a virile society," he said.

Earlier, the Director-General (DG), Sir Joseph Ari, disclosed that it was the earnest desire of ITF to be in the lead in skills training in Nigeria and globally too.

Represented by the State Area Manager, Dr Daniel Asele, the DG said that, the ITF throughout its history had strived to actualize its vision which was "to be the foremost skills training development organization in Nigeria and one of the best in the world."

"The Fund strived for the realization of this vision particularly with respect to our being the foremost skills training development institution in Nigeria.

"The millions of Nigerians we have equipped with skills cannot be compared with any organization with a similar mandate as ours in terms of sheer number and quality.

"As much as our efforts are laudable, when placed side by side with the soaring unemployment figures and other determinants it behooves on us to do more to be true to our declaration," he said.

Meanwhile, the stakeholders variously applauded ITF for her efforts which were aimed at reducing employment as well as poverty, promising that they would continue to partner with them for a better tomorrow.
