Confidence Does Not Falls From The sky, Officer Must Aim To Shoot at Enemy - AVM Lubo

By Our Reporter

The Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Tactical Air Command, AVM IG Lubo, said an officer with rifle but cannot aim and kill his enemy is useless.

Lubo stated this on Tuesday at the 72 Battalion Army Range in Ikpayongo, Gwer Local Government Area, Benue during the Small Arms Range Classification Exercise (SARCE) organised by the command.

He pointed out that it was in view of the above that the military do carry out routine exercises on shooting range.

“Shooting range exercises are aimed at improving the standard of weapon handling of officers, airmen and women of the command.

“There is no doubt that the exercise will avail commanders of units in Makurdi the opportunity to assess and appreciate the standard of personnel especially in weapon handling.

“This is very vital particularly now that the military is deeply involved in ongoing fight against insurgency, banditry and other criminalities in the country,” he said.

He further enjoined the officers to take the exercise very seriously so as to be efficient and effective in weapon handling as well as marksmanship skills.

“Confidence does not fall from the sky. It is imbibed through constant reheasals of skills such as SARCE that is being conducted this week.

“This holds true of the saying that when a soldier’s weapon handling and marksmanship skills are well developed or improved upon, he can confidently carry out the tasking responsibility of defending the territorial integrity of the nation,” he said.

He stressed further that the range classification exercises do create enabling grounds for the command to know her strengths and weaknesses in order to adequately contain the menace of insecurity in the country.

Meanwhile, the Exercise Coordinator, Air Commodore Abdullahi Bello, said that the exercise would involve firing of 7.62x54mm, 7.62x51mm and 7.62x39mm.

“Others are 5.56mmx45mm and 9.19mm live ammo with KPMG, FN rifles, M961AR-MST rifles, Tavor rifles, G3 rifles and pistols.

“The exercise will last for five days. It started on Monday and will end on Friday,” he said.
