Senator George Akume, the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs said zoning of the National Chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Benue had increased his chances of winning the National Chairmanship election  of the All Progressives  Congress (APC).

Akume gave the assurance on Monday in Gboko during the celebration of his 68th birthday organized by Akume Unity Ladies

"Contrary to speculations that the zoning of the National Chairmanship position of the PDP to Benue might affect my emergence as APC national chairman, it would rather increase my chances.

"Many people have been talking to me about the issue of National Chairman of the party and there are many groups and individuals who are already canvassing support for me and I believe that God's time is always the best.

"I have been to Kano, Kastina and Nasarawa for consultations with a team of eminent Benue people like Sen. Barnabas Gemade, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, Chief Steven Lawani and Mr Sam Ode among others," he said.

He said that he gave glory to God for what He had done in his life.

"I am a miracle. When I came to this world on 27th December, 1953. I was not born into a wealthy family but by His special grace I am where I am and that is why I come annually to give  thanks to God," he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Simon Shango, Chairman, Campaign Committee of the Akume National Chairmanship Aspiration corroborated Akume that the zoning of PDP national chairman to Benue had increased Akume's chances of  emerging the APC national chairman.

Shango who is also the Chairman of the APC Elders' Council in Benue explained that since the campaign to ensure that Akume emerged chairman of the party started consultations they had enjoyed wonderful responses.

He stated that the emergence of Akume would become the vogue for the country, where two of the national party chairmen would be Christians and also from the North-Central geopolitical zone and Benue in particular.

"It will be the vogue because, one, it shows that is the place to go; not just that he is from Benue; not just that he is from North-Central, but that he qq

"It means the country is looking towards that direction; that the new arrangement is that chairmanship should go to North-Central and to a Christian.

"So, it improves Akume's chances of emerging the national chairman of the party," Shnago said.

Mr Daniel Ihomun, the APC State Publicity Secretary, said that Akume had touched lives and influenced appointments of Benue sons and daughters into key Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

"He has also influenced the siting of Federal Institutions and massive projects in Benue state," Ihomun stated.
