Prominent Kwande Indigens Demands Guber Zoning Reversal

Prominent indigenes of Kwande local government area, yesterday called on Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leaders in Benue State to reverse the zoning of the 2023 governorship.

They spoke at Adikpo Comprehensive College on 5th April, 2022 after governorship aspirant, Terwase Orbunde, formally briefed them about the Benue PDP leaders decision on the zoning of the position.
The political, community, youth and women leaders stated that the zoning that has sidelined Kwande at this moment was a mistake that must be rectified.

They insisted that just as the PDP Presidential Zoning Committee headed by Governor Samuel Ortom had thrown the contest open the same should apply to the 2023 governorship race in Benue State.

Those who spoke included former Kwande council chairmen, Boniface Ukende and Terhile Iorchir, who also represented the youth, former State Assembly member and governorship aspirant, Christopher Afaor, and Susan Tersoo, Kwande PDP woman leader.
Others were Yongongi Kachina, Tseaa Audu, Alutse Wende, and David Apera for Shangev-ya, Ikyurav-ya, Turan, and Nanev communities respectively.

Those who spoke appealed for calm stating that the Kwande agitation was being pursued with PDP leaders.

Orbunde had stated that the reasons given to sideline Kwande were not convincing enough as among the Tiv zoning arrangements were usually based on the theory of recency.

He said it was upon that argument that in 2013 the Kwande United Peoples Organization, KWUPO, came out boldly to say other intermediate areas should cede the governorship to Minda.

The former Chief of Staff to the Governor stated that contrary to insinuations, the Tor Tiv was in support of Kwande governorship to the extent that if it meant he would have to die for it he was ready to welcome death.
