Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) Nigeria Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) Chapter, has sunk a borehole for her host community, Veterinary Layout North Bank to be precise in benue state

The borehole was commissioned by Wife of the Commander Corps of Engineers, Mrs Adebukola Kadiri on Tuesday in Makurdi.
Performing the function, Mrs Kadiri said that the core objective of the association was assisting the vulnerable and the needy.

She further said that the association's core objective of assisting the needy was aimed at raising their standard of living in the barracks and their respective host communities.

"This is in line with the vision of NAOWA's National President, Mrs Salamatu Yahaya which is sustaining legacies and upholding the tenets of unity and service.

"I am therefore, happy to join you here in the Veterinary layout to commission the project.

"The actualization of the project is indeed a testimony of the importance NAOWA placed on the well being of youths, women and the entire barrack community as well as its environs.

She commended the Coordinator, NAOWA NASME chapter for achieving such a milestone within a very short period of assumption of office.

"The sinking of this borehole will not only provide potable water but will go a long way to alleviate the hardship faced by the vulnerable especially women and children," Mrs Kadiri said.

She also appreciated the Commandant NASME, Maj. Gen. JD Omali for his immense support to the success of the project.

Earlier, in her address of welcome, the Coordinator, NAOWA NASME chapter, Mrs Olanike Omali, disclosed that the projected was executed because it was discovered during a routine check by the Commandant of NASME as he was going round the barracks.

"He discovered that the immediate community neighbouring the barracks is facing hardship of potable water.

"The community scoops its water from the stream and gullies around not only for domestic use but for cooking as well which is unhygienic.

"He consequently conceived the idea of providing a source of water for the community as part of NAOWA activities in uplifting the standard of living of the people in the barracks and its environs," Mrs Omali said.

She further urged the community to put in all necessary efforts to maintain the borehole to serve generation after generation.

The Ter Makurdi, Chief Vincent Aule, appreciated the association for initiating and finally commissioning it.

Aule further advised the beneficiaries of the project to take good use of it for their overall good.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Tabitha Girgi who was represented by an Assistant Director in the ministry, Mrs Eunice Tachia, also thanked NAOWA for providing clean and safe water for the host community.
