VSF distributes 1000 school bags, educational materials to children in Benue IDP Camp

By Our Reporter  Victim Support Fund (VSF) on Wednesday distributed 1,000 school bags with educational materials to school children in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Naka the capital of Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA), Benue. The Chairperson, Emergency Support Program of VSF, Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Naka, Gwer West LGA of the state. Akerele-Ogunsiji further stated that apart from the school bags and educational materials, VSF had also distributed  1,000 bags of 10kg rice, 1,000 bags of 10kg beans, 1,000 bags of 10kg garri, a litre of palm oil, a litre of vegetable oil, salt and sugar among others. She explained that the food stuff was to cater for 1,000 households, stressing that most of the households consisted of 10 to 12 individuals. By Our Reporter Heifer International- Nigeria (HIN) has presented over N100 million to 3,110 smallholder farmers in Benue and Nasarawa States as insurance payout to mitigate losses incurred from harvest due to poor weather conditions, pests and diseases among others. The Country Director, HIN, Mr Rufus Idris, who disclosed this during the payout ceremony in Makurdi informed that a total of 4,358 hectares of farmland belonging to 4,354 smallholder rice farmers in Benue and Nasarawa States were insured during the 2021 wet farming. He explained that out of the total number of 4,354 farmers whose farms were insured only 3,110 suffered losses, stressing that as such they are the only ones to be compensated. From Aviashima Toom, Abuja The Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, has expressed shocked over police personnel involvement in the Club Cubana Shootings in Lagos   The IGP, who described  circumstances surrounding the incident as unbelievable, has however condemned, in the strongest terms, the unfortunate incident.  In a statement signed on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in Abuja said that, the Police personnel alleglly identified in the shooting incident at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, have been taken into custody and are being investigated for their involvement in the incident. Consequently, the IGP has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgent as possible for further action.
