UNFPA/ESLF Support 30 GBV Survivors in Benue with Start-Up Kits

By Our Reporter  The United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF) train and supported 30 victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV) with start-up kits. The training and support to the victims took place in Makurdi. Our Correspondent reports that the start-up kits were for the production of liquid soap, wigs and reusable sanitary pads.  The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Tabitha Igirgi, admonished them to put the skills they acquired to enhance their income.  Igirgi stressed that if they put the skills the acquired to judicious use they would reap the rich dividends of their enterprise within a few month.  Meanwhile, the UNFPA Focal Person in the State who is also an Assistant Director at the Benue State Planning Commission, Mr Matthew Ge, admonished the beneficiaries not to dispise their little beginning pointing out that big businesses start small. Nigeria Army Special Forces Organizes Exercise Endurance Peace II To Train Officers to Tackle Criminality

Oluyinka Soyele, said the command has organised Exercise Endurance Peace II to train officers and men on how to checkmate various criminalities especially as the yuletide season approached. Soyele stated this during the flag off ceremony for the Exercise Endurance Peace II on Tuesday at Tyodugh, Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue. "The exercise is based on real time intelligence on prevailing security  threats and dovetailed into real operations to checkmate various criminalities as the yuletide season approaches. " The exercise will be conducted jointly by the troops of 401 SF Brigade and personnel from various paramilitary agencies drawn from various commands within the state. ICRC hands over PHC it built to Benue Govt

By Our Reporter  The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Wednesday handed over a health facility it built at Ayem community in Guma Local Government Area (LGA), Benue to the state government.  The Commissioner for Health and Human Services in Benue, Prof. Joseph Ngbea who received the facility on behalf of the state government, applauded ICRC for the gesture, stressing that its immense support to the state was deeply appreciated. Ngbea assured that the state government would sustain her partnership with ICRC to enable her continue to provide succour to the people of the state in diverse ways. He further disclosed that Gov. Court acquits Agbem, Yaasa of kidnap charges, says NPF didn't prove case beyond reasonable doubts

By Our Reporter The Benue State High Court 3 has acquitted the Chairman, TAP Group of Companies, Mr Terwase Agbem and Mson Yaasa, since the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) had failed to prove their case of prima facie against them. The trial Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese handed down the judgment on Tuesday in Makurdi. Ikpambese discharged the defendants based on the merit of the case.  The judge further observed that media trial of suspects should be discouraged. The judge held that the NPF tutored the witnesses to lie in the case brought against the defendants, stating that they lied that the defendants attempted to kidnap the Bursar of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi (JOSTUM), Benue State, Mr Emmanuel Timothy.
