The leadership of Coalition of Civil Society for Good Governance in Benue has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his timely assistance to the flood victims in the state.

This is contained in a commendation letter jointly signed by its Convener, Mr Paul Gajir and Secretary, Mr Onuh Apeh and issued on Sunday in Makurdi.

“We are grateful to President Buhari for always coming to the aid of the flood victims in the state. This is one of the many clear examples of Mr President’s disposition to address issues that affect the common people.

“It is no surprise that Mr President, through the relevant agencies, is committed to cushioning the effect of the disaster on the people, and Benue happens to be at the forefront of states that have benefited from the commendable leadership of his initiative,” they said.

The duo stated that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had been on ground and ensuring that the needful was done to mitigate the effect of the flooding in the state.

They further stated that the presidential intervention and relief materials provided to the people through NEMA over their plight do give them renewed hope and faith in Nigeria.

The coalition also appreciated the Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, who undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the state like other states in the country that experienced flooding.

“In the case of Benue state, the DG ensured that the distribution of relief materials was timely to ensure that life returned to normal in the affected communities.

“The activities of NEMA in mitigating the effect of the flooding in Benue are top-notch. Therefore, it is our opinion that under its present leadership, NEMA has lived up to expectations in disaster management in the country.

“We pledge to continue to support the laudable initiatives of your administration which are geared towards sustainable growth and development in the country,” they said.
