VSF 'll soon commence payment of voluntary teachers in IDP camps -- Akerele-Ogunsiji

Victims Support Fund (VSF) will commence payment of stipends to  people who volunteered in teaching in schools situated at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the states where it was intervening.

The Chairperson, Emergency Support Programme of VSF, Mrs Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, disclosed this on Sunday in Igumale, the headquarters of Ado Local Government Area (LGA), Benue while distributing relief materials to the IDPs.

Akerele-Ogunsiji stated that the motive was to enable the voluntary teachers to give in their best in their work, stressing that by so doing they would be impacting quality knowledge into the children.

She emphasized that it was the utmost desire of VSF that all children of school age were in school including those in various IDP camps.

"We will implement this as one of our programmes in 2023," Akerele-Ogunsiji said.  

She also disclosed that VSF would be renovating most Primary Healthcare Clinics (PHCs) in the state in 2023, adding that they want the rural dwellers to also have easy access to quality and comprehensive healthcare.

She said that December would be the last month that they would be supporting IDPs with food items, stressing that in January they would start supporting them with fertilizer and other agricultural inputs.

"We will also train them to acquire skills in tailoring, baking, soap and cream making among several others.
We want the IDPs to be self reliant going forward," she said.

Also, a partner of VSF for distribution of the materials, the Executive Director, Environment and Climate Change Amelioration Initiative, Mrs Victoria Esa, said that the 1,000 IDPs were given rice, palm and vegetable oil, garri, sugar among others.

Esa said that the people expressed joy for the gesture, stating that VSF had given them items to enable them celebrate Christmas joyfully. 

"They prayed God to continue to assist VSF in order to be assisting the less privilege," Esa said.
