Military Exposes Terrorist, Their Sympathisers Blackmail Plot Amid Continued Airstrike

The Armed Forces of Nigeria AFN has disclosed that it has uncovered  attempts by terrorists and their sympathiser to blackmail the Nigerian military into halting its ongoing aerial and artillery assaults on terrorist strongholds throughout the nation.

This was disclose by the Director, Defence Media Operation, DMO, Major General Edward Buba during a biweekly press briefing on the operational activities of the Nigerian military across the theatres in Abuja.

Major General Edward Buba, said that, the critical state of the war against terrorism, emphasizing that it is not just a military fight but a national endeavour requiring widespread civic support.

“War is waged by the nation, not just the military,” General Buba stated, urging civil society organizations and citizens to bolster the collective effort against terror.

He revealed substantial operational successes, including the elimination of 192 terrorists, the arrest of 341 suspects, and the rescue of 62 hostages in recent operations.

Addressing the issue of the blackmail strategy, General Buba explained, “It is therefore should not be surprising, that these terrorists and their sympathisers plot on blackmailing the military as a result of the ongoing military air strikes.

“The plot is to depict some casualties as innocent citizens rather than cohorts of this terrorist.

“It is important for the media to be wary of the antics of these terrorist groups and their sympathisers. Our operations have prevented these evil elements from accomplishing their strategic objectives.”

He further detailed that precision strikes had successfully neutralized several key terrorist figures and disrupted their networks across various operational theaters.

A significant breakthrough, as over 122 terrorists affiliated with ISWAP/JAS surrendered with their families.

Troops also apprehended 37 individuals involved in oil theft and seized assets worth over 821 million Naira, including large quantities of stolen crude oil and refined petroleum products.

He therefore, affirmed the military’s commitment to defeating terrorism, stating, “Our objective remains clear: to destroy the terrorists’ capabilities and deny them any opportunity to inflict harm on our citizens.”
