Anambra Poll: Aspirant Urges Women To Involve in Active Politics......Promise To Work For Whoever Emerges Winner.
By Aviashima Toom, Abuja
A leading APC governorship aspirant for the 2025 Anambra election, Johnbosco Obinna Onunkwo, has urged women to participate actively in party politics, just as he believes that women's involvement is crucial for shaping the state's and country's future.
Onunkwo's appeal is part of his broader vision to promote human capital development, security, health, education, economy, enterprise, market, and social welfare in Anambra State.
Speaking to journalists after the screening, on Saturday, Johnbosco Obinna Onunkwo expressed confidence in his candidacy and commitment to leading the party to victory in the upcoming elections.
His message is particularly significant, given the underrepresentation of women in Nigerian politics by urging them to take part in party politics, he hopes to create a more inclusive and diverse political landscape in Anambra State.
According to him, as a party man. if he happens not to win the primary, he will still work for whoever ermahgerd winner. " I am a party men, if I happen not to win the primary, which I know I will win frictionlessly because power is given by God, I will still work for whoever gets the ticket. I have never gone to any party outside the APC". He stated
The Guber hopeful's noted that, he is one of the Anambra most credible aspirants for the 2025 election. "During the last Asiwaju-Shettima campaign in 2023 election, I supported my president with 189 support groups.
"We thank our president for the reforms he is doing. He is the stone, which most people who call themselves builders rejected at the APC that has now become the chief cornerstone. I have also done a lot for this party and it has endeared me to the people of Anambra State because they are electorally wise.
"Today, we are at a crossroad in Anambra. Are we to talk about security or infrastructure? I also thank the National Chairman of our party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje. In him, I see a man who is determined for APC to win Anambra State. APC winning Anambra is very important, so that the people will have that breath of fresh air and we can be sure of our 2027. The South East must be connected to the centre. We must make that handshake across the Niger". He said
On party decision on indirect primaries, Johnbosco explained that, he had opted for direct primary because APC Anambra belongs to him. "Initially I was opting for direct primary because the whole APC Anambra number belongs to me. I am the one that's been taking care of it. So with direct primary, it's as good as all of us celebrating.
"But the party has checked the pros and the cons. And they have decided that it will be a direct primary. Who am I to say otherwise? I will abide by it". He stated
He explained further that Chris Ngige still remain a member of the party. "He is still a full member of APC. If he's not, we wouldn't see him in the caucus meeting of our NEC. But he was there himself and not represented. If you remember, Mr President, in his wisdom at the last NEC, directed the inauguration of a reconciliation committee, which I believe must be preparing to start any moment.
"So, I will advise the committee to start in earnest because a lot is being expected. This is because a few members of this party who started from AD, AC, to ACN and now the APC are feeling marginalized. We need to bring them back.
"I can tell you that they constitute the majority of the voting strength. That's why we need them to win elections. That's when you see supporters who support our party but get nothing. These are the people I hope they will bring back. So we advise the reconciliation committee to move with speed to bring back aggrieved members." He said.
