Armed Forces of Nigeria Record Major Gains Nationwide in Counter-Terrorism Operations

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have announced significant breakthroughs in their ongoing military operations across the country, aimed at crushing insurgency, terrorism, oil theft, and other criminal activities. The operations, which spanned from 8 to 15 May 2025, are part of a heightened offensive as the rainy season approaches.

According to Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, the intensified efforts are meant to create safe corridors for farmers and reinforce national food security as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Our troops, in synergy with hybrid forces and other security agencies, remain committed to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting our people from all threats,” Kangye stated.

Key Achievements by Region:

NORTH EAST – Operation HADIN KAI

Numerous ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters, along with their families, surrendered.

Operations in Borno State led to the rescue of 17 kidnapped victims.

Two terrorist collaborators arrested in Gwoza and Gubio.


NORTH WEST – Operation FASAN YAMMA

Over 129 kidnapped victims rescued across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina States.

Several terrorists neutralized in fighting patrols.

Two drug peddlers arrested with cannabis and illicit substances worth over N110,000.


NORTH CENTRAL – Operations SAFE HAVEN & WHIRL STROKE

Extremists and kidnappers neutralized in Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, and Kogi States.

Multiple arms and motorcycles recovered.

Arrest of gunrunners and wanted logistics suppliers, including in the FCT.


SOUTH SOUTH – Operation DELTA SAFE

Oil theft worth over N103 million foiled.

Troops destroyed 18 illegal refining sites and recovered 68,875 litres of stolen crude oil.

15 oil thieves and cult-related criminals apprehended.


SOUTH EAST – Operation UDO KA

Several terrorists neutralized in Imo and Anambra States.

Recovery of weapons, vehicles, and over 3,000 litres of illegally refined crude oil.

DSS-led intelligence operations led to arrest of suspects in Enugu and Anambra.


Nationwide: Crackdown on Criminal Collaborators
Troops also arrested multiple extremist informants and arms couriers, including three key suspects in Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The AFN reaffirmed its dedication to lawful operations, human rights, and collaboration with local communities. Citizens are encouraged to continue providing credible information to aid military operations.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria call on all law-abiding citizens to go about their daily activities without fear. We remain focused and determined to defeat all forms of criminality,” Major General Kangye concluded.
