The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in securing a landslide victory in the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, as it inaugurated its National Campaign Council led by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Uba Sani thanked the leadership of the APC for entrusting him with the responsibility of chairing the campaign council alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
He described the appointment as a reflection of the party’s collective vision for a prosperous Nigeria and commended Ekiti State Governor and APC candidate,
Biodun Oyebanji, for what he called remarkable achievements in office.
According to Sani, Oyebanji’s victory in the 2022 governorship election, where he polled 187,557 votes and defeated his closest rival by over 104,000 votes, demonstrated the confidence the people of Ekiti had in the APC’s leadership.
The Kaduna governor said the party was setting an ambitious target for the forthcoming election, aiming to more than double its previous performance and secure a victory margin of no less than 500,000 votes.
“Our goal is not merely a numerical target. It represents our commitment to ensuring that the voices of Ekiti people are amplified and that their trust in good governance is rewarded,” he said.
Sani disclosed that campaign structures had already been established across the state’s 16 local government areas and 177 wards, adding that the campaign would focus on grassroots mobilisation, youth engagement and women’s participation.
He also attributed the party’s growing confidence to the reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the administration’s policies were empowering states and creating opportunities for sustainable development.
The campaign council chairman further highlighted the unprecedented support Governor Oyebanji has received from former governors of Ekiti State, describing it as a strong endorsement of his inclusive leadership style and commitment to the welfare of citizens.
In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the APC leadership and reiterated his confidence in the party’s chances at the polls.
He said his administration had faithfully implemented the social contract it signed with Ekiti people and credited President Tinubu for providing the resources that enabled the state government to deliver on its promises.
“The challenge is not about winning the election. The challenge is the numbers,” Oyebanji said.
He revealed that Ekiti delivered 67 per cent of its votes to President Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election and set a target of 500,000 votes in the 2026 governorship election and 700,000 votes in the 2027 general election.
The governor described the upcoming election as a celebration of performance and democracy, saying the people of Ekiti would use the opportunity to appreciate the developmental strides of both the state and federal governments.
Oyebanji also commended members of the APC campaign structure in the state, particularly the State Campaign Council led by Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, for their extensive grassroots mobilisation efforts.
According to him, the council has deployed over 10,000 canvassers across the state and conducted outreach in all 2,445 polling units.
Earlier, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, praised Governor Oyebanji’s administration after a recent visit to the state.
Yilwatda said he personally inspected projects across Ekiti and was impressed by the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education and social protection.
“You have built roads, provided scholarships, strengthened healthcare support systems and connected communities across the state. We are proud to present you to the people of Ekiti for a second term,” he said.
The APC chairman described Oyebanji as one of the party’s strongest candidates and expressed confidence in his re-election bid.
He also pointed to the presence of APC leaders, governors, senators and National Assembly members from across the country as evidence of the party’s unity and strength ahead of the election.
According to him, the party has mobilised the resources, manpower and structures needed to secure victory.
Delivering the welcome address, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, said the inauguration of the National Campaign Council marked a major milestone in the party’s preparations for the Ekiti governorship election.
Basiru explained that the council had been divided into 11 subcommittees with clearly defined responsibilities to ensure effective coordination of campaign activities.
The committees include Election Planning and Management, Finance and Resource Mobilisation, Grassroots Engagement and Mobilisation, Logistics and Campaign Management, Protocol, Media and Publicity, Security, Persons with Disabilities Mobilisation, Women Mobilisation, Youth Mobilisation and Secretariat.
He said the committees were carefully constituted with experienced party leaders and stakeholders capable of delivering victory for the APC in the June 20 election.
“The National Working Committee has no doubt that these committees will discharge their responsibilities efficiently and ensure a successful outcome for our party,” Basiru said.
The APC leadership thereafter formally inaugurated the National Campaign Council, charging members to work towards securing a decisive victory for Governor Oyebanji and the party in the forthcoming election.
