Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified operations against terrorists and bandits across the North-West, neutralising two suspected terrorists, rescuing a kidnapped victim, arresting eight suspected collaborators and logistics facilitators, and recovering 110 rustled cattle during operations conducted between June 27 and 28, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were carried out across Kaduna and Zamfara states as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks in the region.
The statement said that on June 27, troops of Sector 1, working with members of the Vigilante Group, engaged terrorists transporting kidnapped victims on motorcycles during fighting patrols in Giwa and Kaduna North Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. Following a gun battle, the terrorists reportedly abandoned two motorcycles and fled into the bush. One kidnapped victim was rescued alive, while the body of another victim, allegedly killed by the terrorists, was recovered.
Later the same day, troops responded to reports of a terrorist attack on Dariya Village in Giwa Local Government Area, where one civilian was killed and three others injured before security forces arrived. Troops pursued the fleeing attackers and engaged them in a firefight, killing two suspected terrorists. Security personnel also recovered one motorcycle, ammunition, charms and other personal effects from the scene.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 acting on intelligence arrested two suspects at Magami in Gusau Local Government Area. The military alleged that the suspects provided medical support to terrorist groups operating in the area.
Similarly, troops on fighting patrol around Polewire Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State arrested six individuals under suspicious circumstances following an encounter with fleeing terrorists. The suspects are currently under investigation.
On June 28, troops, in collaboration with local vigilantes, pursued suspected cattle rustlers in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and laid an ambush along their suspected escape route at Ungwan Gora bush. According to the military, the operation forced the rustlers to abandon 110 stolen cattle and flee. The recovered livestock were later returned to their owners.
The Joint Task Force said it remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal groups across the North-West while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
