COAS Passes Out 3,000 Recruits, Reaffirms Army's Commitment to Strengthening National Defence

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday passed out more than 3,000 newly trained recruits at the Depot Nigerian Army, Amasiri-Edda, Ebonyi State, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army's manpower and enhance national security.

Speaking at the passing-out parade, Lieutenant General Shaibu charged the new soldiers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, loyalty and professionalism as they begin active military service. He said their training had been carefully designed to prepare them for the realities of modern warfare and Nigeria's evolving security challenges.

The Army Chief urged the recruits to remain vigilant, disciplined and committed to their duties, stressing that their allegiance to the Constitution and constituted authority must remain unwavering. He noted that the nation had invested significantly in their training and expected them to justify that confidence through courage, professionalism and selfless service.

Shaibu described the establishment of the Depot Nigerian Army in Amasiri-Edda as a strategic investment in the Army's training infrastructure and manpower development. He said the facility aligns with the Nigerian Army's transformation agenda and reflects the Federal Government's commitment to expanding the country's defence capabilities.

The passing-out parade marks another milestone in the Army's ongoing recruitment drive aimed at reinforcing its operational strength. It follows recent graduation ceremonies at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, and the newly established training depot in Osogbo, Osun State, highlighting a sustained expansion of the Army's force generation capacity.

The COAS commended the Commandant, instructors and support staff of the depot for their dedication and professionalism in producing combat-ready soldiers capable of contributing effectively to military operations across the country.

Also speaking at the event, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, praised the Nigerian Army for establishing the training depot in the state. He described the facility as a strategic national asset that has enhanced security, stimulated economic activities and created opportunities for residents of Ebonyi State and neighbouring communities.

Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the Armed Forces and other security agencies in promoting peace, stability and sustainable development.

The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, government officials, traditional rulers, families of the recruits and other dignitaries. Activities included a ceremonial parade, precision drills and the presentation of awards to outstanding recruits, underscoring the Nigerian Army's commitment to building a disciplined, professional and combat-ready force capable of addressing emerging security threats.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said. It noted that the rising waters, especially at Makurdi and Ibbi, had placed the River Benue Basin on high alert.
