Customs Strengthens Leadership Capacity as 50 Officers Graduate from NCCSC Gwagwalada

 The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has strengthened its operational and leadership capacity with the graduation of 50 officers from the three-month Junior Course 25 at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The officers graduated at a ceremony held on Friday, August 28, 2026, marking another milestone in the Service’s efforts to develop competent and accountable leaders for modern Customs administration.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, charged the graduates to uphold integrity, sound judgment and the national interest in the discharge of their duties.

Adeniyi stressed that leadership in contemporary Customs administration goes beyond revenue generation, noting that officers must demonstrate competence, fairness, courage and accountability in responding to increasingly complex operational challenges.

“Leadership is not defined solely by the rank that you wear, but is demonstrated through competence, fairness, courage and the responsibility you take,” the CGC told the graduates.

He urged the officers to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the course to improve their performance and contribute meaningfully to the effectiveness of the Service.

The Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs (ACG) Dow Gaura, commended the graduating officers for their dedication and commitment throughout the training.

Gaura also highlighted efforts by the institution to modernise its training programmes, including the deployment of digital learning tools and strategic training partnerships with the Nigerian Army.

Certificates were presented to all 50 graduates, while the three best-performing officers received special awards from the Comptroller-General in recognition of their outstanding performance.

The graduation activities commenced earlier in the week with a regimental dinner held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Speaking at the dinner on behalf of the CGC, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs (DCG) Suleiman Chiroma urged the officers to demonstrate vigilance, professionalism and decisive leadership as they return to their various commands and assignments.

He challenged the graduates to translate the knowledge gained at the College into practical results, stressing the importance of discipline and effective leadership in advancing the objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The graduation of Junior Course 25 underscores the NCS’s continued investment in professional training and leadership development as the Service adapts to the demands of a rapidly changing operational and trade environment.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said. It noted that the rising waters, especially at Makurdi and Ibbi, had placed the River Benue Basin on high alert.
