COAS Unveils 30 Family Housing Units in Kaduna

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has unveiled 30 family accommodation units at Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna, as part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to improve the welfare and living conditions of its personnel and their families.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, 24 September 2026, by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the newly completed accommodation comprises two blocks of family housing units designed to ease accommodation challenges within the cantonment and provide a conducive living environment for personnel.

The statement said the project formed part of the Nigerian Army’s broader infrastructure development and renewal programme aimed at rehabilitating ageing facilities and providing additional infrastructure across formations and units nationwide.

Speaking at the unveiling, Lieutenant General Shaibu said the provision of decent accommodation remained an important component of personnel welfare and effective administration under his Command Philosophy.

He noted that the wellbeing of soldiers and their families had a direct bearing on morale, motivation and operational effectiveness.

The COAS explained that the intervention had become increasingly important as the Nigerian Army expanded its force structure and operational reach, stressing that such growth must be matched by corresponding investment in infrastructure and welfare facilities.

Lieutenant General Shaibu said Ribadu Cantonment accommodates several Nigerian Army establishments and expressed optimism that the new housing units would help reduce pressure on existing accommodation.

He charged the beneficiaries to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper use and maintenance.

The Army Chief also disclosed that similar accommodation projects were ongoing in barracks and cantonments across the country as part of efforts to rehabilitate ageing infrastructure and provide additional facilities to meet the evolving requirements of the Nigerian Army.

He expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued support and provision of resources towards improving the welfare and living conditions of Nigerian Army personnel and their families.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Muhammed Wase, commended the COAS for prioritising troops’ welfare.

Major General Wase described the project as timely and morale-boosting, assuring that the facilities would be properly utilised and maintained.

Colonel Anele said the commissioning of the housing units further underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to investing in infrastructure and improving the welfare and living conditions of its personnel and their families.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said. It noted that the rising waters, especially at Makurdi and Ibbi, had placed the River Benue Basin on high alert.
