Cross River Police, NMA Forge Security Alliance to Protect Medical Personnel, Health Facilities

The Cross River State Police Command has pledged to strengthen security collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to safeguard medical personnel, healthcare facilities and patients across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, psc, mnips, mspsp, made the commitment on Monday, August 31, 2026, when he received the leadership of the NMA, Cross River State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Dr. Pius Unimke Agweye, during a strategic engagement at the Command headquarters.

The meeting focused on strengthening communication, intelligence-sharing and coordinated responses to security challenges affecting healthcare workers and medical facilities across the state.

CP Ajo Geoffrey stressed that the safety of medical personnel is an important component of community security, noting that healthcare workers provide essential services and should be able to carry out their responsibilities in a safe and secure environment.

He urged the NMA leadership to maintain open and effective communication with the Police Command and promptly report security concerns and relevant information that could assist intelligence-led policing, crime prevention and rapid response to emerging threats.

Responding, the NMA Chairman, Dr. Pius Unimke Agweye, commended the Commissioner for his commitment to stakeholder engagement and expressed the association’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the Police.

He said the NMA was committed to working with the security agencies to create a safer environment for healthcare delivery and protect medical professionals in the course of their duties.

The engagement is part of CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue’s strategic policing approach, which places emphasis on building sustainable partnerships with professional associations, institutions and communities as key stakeholders in crime prevention and public safety.

The Police Command said it remains committed to strengthening partnerships that will contribute to the safety and security of residents and critical service providers across Cross River State.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

From Aviashima Toom, Abuja  SAHEL ReportersNews: Benue State Government and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) have raised the alarm saying the rising water levels along the River Benue Basin have neared flooding any moment from now. Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said. It noted that the rising waters, especially at Makurdi and Ibbi, had placed the River Benue Basin on high alert.
