CROSS RIVER POLICE STRENGTHENS SECURITY PARTNERSHIP WITH HOMELAND SECURITY

The Cross River State Police Command is strengthening its partnership with the Homeland Security, Cross River State South, in a renewed effort to tackle crime and improve public safety across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, announced this when the Director-General of Homeland Security, Cross River State South, Chief Michael Nsan, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Command in Calabar.

The Commissioner described Homeland Security as a critical stakeholder in the state’s security architecture, stressing the need for stronger collaboration in the face of evolving criminal activities.

He called for increased intelligence sharing, information exchange, community engagement and coordinated operations to prevent and disrupt crime.

CP Ajo Geoffrey reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to a multi-stakeholder approach to security, assuring that the Police would deepen collaboration with Homeland Security and other relevant partners to protect lives and property.

In his response, Chief Michael Nsan thanked the Commissioner for the reception and expressed the readiness of Homeland Security to strengthen its partnership with the Nigeria Police Force.

Both sides agreed to deepen inter-agency cooperation and intelligence-led operations towards building a stronger and more integrated security network across Cross River State.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

From Aviashima Toom, Abuja  SAHEL ReportersNews: Benue State Government and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) have raised the alarm saying the rising water levels along the River Benue Basin have neared flooding any moment from now. Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said. It noted that the rising waters, especially at Makurdi and Ibbi, had placed the River Benue Basin on high alert.
