Late Major General Ezra Jakko Buried with Full Military Honours in Abuja

 The remains of the late former Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Ezra Jakko (Rtd), were on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, amid solemn tributes from family members, colleagues, friends and senior military officers.

The funeral ceremony, which attracted serving and retired senior military officers and other dignitaries, provided an opportunity to honour the deceased officer’s contributions to the Nigerian Army and his service to the nation.

Delivering the funeral oration on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Taofik Temitope Sidick, described the late General Jakko as a highly professional soldier whose career was marked by dedication, discipline and an unwavering commitment to duty.

He said the deceased was not only distinguished by his professional achievements but was also a man of admirable character who built lasting relationships across professional, social and religious divides.

According to him, Major General Jakko was an exemplary leader whose innovative and instructional abilities positively influenced officers and personnel who served and trained under him.

Major General Sidick particularly highlighted the deceased’s contribution to human capacity development during his tenure as Chief Instructor and Acting Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance (NASFA), noting that his knowledge, mentorship and leadership contributed significantly to the professional development of numerous students.

Born on 15 August 1964 in Wule, Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Major General Jakko was commissioned into the Nigerian Army through the Direct Short Service Commission as a Lieutenant on 4 October 1989.

He subsequently rose through the ranks in a career spanning several years, attaining the rank of Major General before his retirement.

Earlier, a funeral service was held in his honour at the All Saints Military Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

In his sermon, the officiating minister, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, described the late senior officer as a generous and devoted servant of God who committed himself to both military service and the service of humanity.

Apostle Kure disclosed that Major General Jakko was deeply involved in Christian ministry and eventually served as a pastor and General Overseer of the Gospel Believers Mission.

He reminded the congregation of the transient nature of life and urged the bereaved family to draw strength and comfort from God and from the enduring memories of the deceased.

The funeral rites were attended by the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, CFR (Rtd); former Chiefs of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, CFR (Rtd), and Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, CFR (Rtd); as well as senior serving and retired military officers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers' Wives Association (NAOWA), captains of industry, family members, friends and other dignitaries.

Major General Jakko was eventually committed to mother earth with full military honours as mourners reflected on his life of service, leadership, professionalism and devotion to humanity.

He is survived by family members and leaves behind memories of a career dedicated to the Nigerian Army and the nation.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said. It noted that the rising waters, especially at Makurdi and Ibbi, had placed the River Benue Basin on high alert.
