Nigerian Navy to Support Oil Producers to Boost Crude Oil Output — CNS

The Nigerian Navy has pledged to strengthen its support for crude oil-producing companies in a bid to enhance the protection of critical petroleum assets and boost Nigeria’s crude oil production output.

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, made the commitment when he received a delegation of the Security Sub-Committee of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), led by its Chairman, Mr Johnson Ogbum, at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja.

According to a press statement issued on Thursday by the Director Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the engagement focused on strengthening security around oil production facilities, remote assets and export terminals.

The statement said discussions centred on addressing crude oil theft, third-party interference and threats to offshore and near-shore petroleum infrastructure.
The OPTS delegation also sought enhanced naval patrols in vulnerable maritime areas and appropriate security support for the movement of petroleum products.

Responding, Vice Admiral Abbas reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to securing the nation’s maritime environment and protecting critical national economic infrastructure.

The CNS noted that sustained naval operations had contributed to reducing crude oil theft, stressing that effective intelligence sharing between oil-producing companies and the Navy remained critical to anticipating threats and improving operational responses.

He also highlighted the importance of technology in strengthening maritime surveillance and patrol capabilities.

Vice Admiral Abbas assured the delegation that its requests for enhanced security support would be considered based on identified security requirements and formal requests from affected organisations.

The engagement, according to the statement, further underscored the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to creating a secure maritime environment that would support increased crude oil production and protect critical national infrastructure.

It also reinforced the need for sustained collaboration between the Navy and stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector in addressing emerging security challenges and safeguarding petroleum assets.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government

Towards this end, the Benue State Government has designated camps in 18 Local Government Areas to shift would-be victims of flood. Data released by NIHSA yesterday showed a steady increase in water levels, approaching the flood threshold. “Water levels recorded at key gauge stations are alarming, with Wuro Boki at 6.36 metres and Jimeta Bridge at 5.04 metres. “Ibbi station stands at 8.2 metres, Makurdi at 9.4 metres, and Lokoja (Niger River) at 8. 68 metres,” the report said.
