OPERATION HADIN KAI FOILS TERRORIST ATTACKS ON Gajiram, Mairari FOBs

Four terrorist bodies recovered, weapons seized as two JAS fighters, including commander, surrender in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled separate terrorist attacks on Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Borno State, inflicting casualties on the attackers and recovering weapons and other military equipment.

The military operation also resulted in the surrender of two Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorists, including a commander, who handed themselves over to troops along the Miyanti–Darel Jamel axis in Bama Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Captain Mohammed Goni, the first attack occurred on September 17, when terrorists advanced towards FOB Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area.

The terrorists were detected early by troops, with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
Troops responded by adopting defensive measures, while the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided close air support.

The coordinated military response forced the terrorists to withdraw from the vicinity of the base into adjoining areas.
In a separate incident later that night, several Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attacked FOB Mairari in Guzamala Local Government Area.

The attackers reportedly met stiff resistance from troops, backed by close air support from the Air Component.
The military said the attack was successfully contained, with casualties inflicted on the terrorists.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of four terrorists’ corpses, AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, RPG bombs and a camcorder, among other items.

Some troops sustained injuries during the engagement and were subsequently stabilised and airlifted to a hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Following the attacks, the Commander, Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, conducted an assessment of the affected locations and coordinated follow-up operations.

The military also reinforced the locations to strengthen their defensive posture, while troops continued operations in surrounding areas to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.

Two JAS terrorists surrender

In another development, sustained military pressure in the theatre has led to the surrender of two JAS terrorists, including a Qaid (commander), to troops of Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI.

The two terrorists surrendered on the night of September 16 along the Miyanti–Darel Jamel axis in Bama Local Government Area.

They reportedly surrendered with three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, a motorcycle and a cache of ammunition.

The military said the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation and profiling in line with established procedures.

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, commended the troops, MNJTF ISR team and aircrew for their vigilance, courage and coordination.

Ajose reaffirmed the military's determination to sustain pressure against terrorist groups and protect communities across the North-East.

He also urged terrorists still operating in the bush to lay down their arms and surrender through established channels.

The commander further called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The latest operations, according to the military, demonstrate continued coordination between ground forces and air assets in countering terrorist activities across the Joint Operations Area.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government
