Troops Arrest Three Suspected Terrorist Couriers, Rescue 14 Kidnap Victims in Katsina

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested three suspected terrorist logistics couriers and rescued 14 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to a statement issued on Friday, by the Theatre Command’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the suspects were intercepted on September 24 while travelling on a motorcycle in Faskari.

The military said preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspects were transporting ₦2.7 million, suspected to be ransom money, along with three mobile phones for onward delivery to a terrorist kingpin through intermediaries in the area.

The suspects and the recovered items have been taken into military custody for further investigation, the statement said.
In a separate operation on September 25, troops acting on intelligence about the movement of terrorists in the area reportedly ambushed and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee.

The troops subsequently recovered one AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle from the area, according to the statement.

Also on the same day, troops on routine patrol intercepted and rescued 14 kidnapped victims comprising 12 males and two females.

The military said preliminary investigations showed that the victims had earlier been abducted from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki communities in Faskari Local Government Area.

The victims were reportedly abandoned by their abductors after they sighted the advancing troops. They were subsequently rescued and handed over to the Faskari Local Government authorities for further action.

The Theatre Command said the operations demonstrated the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting civilians, rescuing kidnapped persons and restricting the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements in the Joint Operations Area.

It also commended the troops for their vigilance and urged residents to continue providing security agencies with timely information on suspicious movements and activities in their communities.

Flood Alert: Benue Basin Water Levels Near Flood, designates camps in 18 Local Government
