The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, to sustain offensive operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

Shaibu gave the charge on Saturday during an operational assessment visit to the North-East theatre, where he addressed officers and soldiers at the 212 Tank Battalion Parade Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja

According to the state the COAS commended the troops for their courage, sacrifices and sustained operational efforts, which he said had significantly degraded terrorist capabilities and contributed to improved security in the region.

The Army Chief urged the troops to consolidate the gains recorded, remain vigilant and intensify operations to achieve the decisive defeat of terrorist groups operating in the North-East.

He stressed that discipline, combat readiness, resilience and professionalism remained essential to the success of the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.

Shaibu also assured personnel of the Nigerian Army's commitment to improving their welfare, in line with his Soldier First philosophy.

He said the Army would sustain efforts to provide modern combat equipment, improved accommodation, adequate medical support and timely troop rotation to boost morale and operational effectiveness.

"You must remain disciplined, resilient and focused. The nation is proud of you and looks up to you for the final defeat of terrorism," he charged.

Earlier, the COAS received an operational briefing from the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Maj.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, and sector commanders on the prevailing security situation, operational successes, emerging challenges and strategies for sustaining pressure on terrorist elements across the theatre.

The briefing provided an assessment of ongoing operations and measures being adopted to strengthen the military's campaign against insurgency in the region.

As part of his engagement with personnel, Shaibu also visited wounded soldiers, commending them for their sacrifices in defence of the country.

He assured the injured personnel of continued medical attention, rehabilitation and institutional support, reaffirming the Army's commitment to their recovery and well-being.

The visit underscores the COAS's emphasis on frontline leadership, operational readiness and troop welfare as the Nigerian Army intensifies efforts to eliminate terrorist threats and consolidate peace and security in the North-East.
