The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Nigeria, Mr Michał Cygan, has expressed his country's readiness to deepen defence cooperation with Nigeria, particularly in border security, technology transfer and operational effectiveness.

Cygan stated this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The Polish envoy commended the professionalism, resilience and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, noting that Nigeria's strategic geographical position and sustained security engagements were crucial to maintaining peace and stability in West Africa and beyond.

He described Nigeria as a key stabilising force in the sub-region, adding that both countries stood to benefit from increased collaboration and the exchange of expertise in various areas of defence and security.

According to him, there are several opportunities for Nigeria and Poland to strengthen their bilateral defence relations through cooperation and experience-sharing.

Responding, General Oluyede thanked the ambassador for the visit and stressed the need for both countries to explore avenues for expanding defence cooperation, particularly in areas that would directly support ongoing military operations.

The CDS identified border security and technology transfer as priority areas for collaboration, highlighting Poland's experience and expertise in border management and security.

He expressed the readiness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustain engagement with Polish defence stakeholders towards strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing security capabilities.

The visit forms part of ongoing diplomatic engagements by the Polish ambassador aimed at strengthening relations between Nigeria and Poland, with particular emphasis on defence and security collaboration.
