Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 27 kidnapped residents and recovered a motorcycle abandoned by fleeing terrorists during separate operations in Katsina State.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to Danja, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call on October 16, reporting terrorist activities in Gamji community, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

He said the report indicated that the terrorists had abducted 27 residents, comprising 15 males and 12 females.

“Troops responded swiftly, pursuing the terrorists along the Gangare–Kamba axis. On contact, troops engaged with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their victims and flee in disarray,” he stated.

Danja explained that all 27 victims were rescued unharmed during the exploitation of the area, adding that they were profiled and handed over to community leaders for reunification with their families.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops conducting a fighting patrol around Kurba village in Kankara Local Government Area encountered terrorists travelling on three motorcycles.

According to the media officer, the terrorists fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning one motorcycle, which was subsequently recovered.

He said the successful operations demonstrated the sustained offensive posture and operational effectiveness of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting vulnerable communities across the joint operations area.

Danja quoted the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force as commending the troops for their gallantry and swift response to security threats.

“He assures residents of Katsina, Zamfara and adjoining states of the Task Force's unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace and security,” the statement added.

The latest operations highlight the military's continued efforts to disrupt terrorist activities, rescue abducted persons and strengthen security across the North-West region.
