AFN Kills 6,886 Terrorists, Arrests 6,970 in 2023 — DHQ

By Josephine Gideon, Abuja   The Armed Forces of Nigeria has highlighted monumental achievements in its ongoing fight against Terrorism and insurgency, with a total of 6,886 terrorists and criminal elements killed in 2023. In addition to neutralizing threats, troops arrested 6,970 suspected terrorists, rescued 4,488 kidnapped hostages, and recovered 3,320 assorted weapons and 39,075 assorted ammunition. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, who made the disclosure on Friday in Abuja during the end of year press briefing, also, said significant achievements include the recovery of 100,316,600 litres of crude oil, 60,339,426 litres of AGO, 3,465,450 litres of DPK, and 3,544,990 litres of PMS in the South South Zone, addressing issues of crude oil theft and economic sabotage. Major General Buba highlighted major security threats in 2023, including terrorism, armed banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, secessionist agitations, and farmers-herders clashes.

40 Neutralized, As Troops Arrest 191 Terrorists, Recovers 72 Assorted Weapons, Ammunition- DHQ

By Josephine Gideon, Abuja The Armed Forces of Nigeria has disclosed that its troops during an  ambushed raids, fighting patrols and other forms of offensives against the terrorist, neutralized over 40 Terrorists, arrested 191 of them while 72 assorted weapons and 338 assorted ammunition recovered.  Briefing Director of Defence Media Operations Major General Edward Buba who made this disclosure during the bio-weekly media briefing in Abuja noted, Troops also arrested 68 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 80 kidnapped hostages.  He also said, In the South South troops denied the oil theft of the estimated sum of Four Hundred and Eight Million One Hundred and Forty Seven Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty Naira (N408,147,460.00). Police Arrests Akwa Ibom Lawyer Over Wife Battery

INEC to conduct re-run, bye-elections February 2024

From Aviashima Toom, Abuja The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that it will conduct reruns and bye-elections across the country in February 2024 to fill existing vacancies in the state and federal legislatures. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at a meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja on Monday ahead of the elections. According to him, Re-run elections only involve the parties and candidates that participated in the general election, unless a party wishes to replace a deceased candidate. However, bye-elections are fresh elections. Yakubu noted that at the end of litigations, the courts ordered the commission to conduct rerun elections in 34 federal and state constituencies, made up of one in the Senate, 11 federal constituencies, and 22 state constituencies. From Aviashima Toom, Abuja The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is sets to roll out his achievements within the last 10 weeks on the saddle. The IGP who is also meeting with strategic management of the police, they include, Commissioners of Police and above and other tactical commanders.  In a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja, noted that, the meeting, which is at the instance of the IGP, would address many security issues and review Police's anti crime strategies for efficiency and effectiveness towards peace and order in our dear country.   

Top Terrorists Commander, Machika, Bomb Expert Neutralized in NorthEast- DHQ

By Josephine Gideon, Abuja The Military says its troops during an aggressive air strikes has neutralized several top terrorist commanders and their foot soldiers.  This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Defence Media Operations DHQ, Major General, Edward Buba in Abuja. He noted that, younger brother of a notorious terrorist (Dogo Gide). Others prominent terrorist leaders were also neutralised including Haro and Dan Muhammadu both of whom are specialist in kidnapping  and assault operations respectively. He also said, through  synchronised strike between air and ground forces aimed at the same target, a renowned terrorist leader responsible for the abduction of the students of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, Ali Alhaji ALHERI popularly called Kachalla Ali KAWAJE was neutralize in Munya LGA of Niger state along with many of his foot soldiers.
