ECOWAS court orders Nigeria to pay 244 soldiers dismissed in 2016

By Aviashima Toom, Abuja. The ECOWAS Court of Justice, has ordered the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay the salaries and allowances of 244 soldiers dismissed in 2016. A statement issued by the court on Friday said that the order was given in a Judgment issued by a panel of three justices of the court on Thursday. The court had earlier ruled in May 2019, that the process by which the soldiers were dismissed violated their right to work and fair hearing. Delivering a supplementary judgment to its ruling of May 15, 2019, the court ordered the government to pay all arrears of monthly allowances and salaries and other entitlements of the Applicants up to January 2016. In the judgment which was delivered by Justice Keikura Bangura, the judge rapporteur, the court said it came to the decision,, haven heard the parties, considered the documents and reviewed its earlier judgment. APC Crisis: Pro-Oshiomhole NWC members to seek legal redress

By  Ab u Maliki       Members of the pro-Adam Oshiomole National Working Committee (NWC) have resolved to take legal action over the resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to dissolve the national leadership of the party. NEC had during an emergency virtual meeting resolved among other things to dissolve the national leadership, setting up a caretaker committee headed by the former National Secretary and current Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni. Reacting to the development, a member of the pro-Oshiomhole NWC disclosed that arrangements have been concluded to seek legal redress. By Aviashima Toom, Abuja.  The Armed Forces of Nigeria has disclosed that it Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji under the subsidiary Operation Watun Daji have killed a key armed bandits leader, his twin brother, while their two camps and cave hideout of members were also destroyed in Doumborou Forest, Zamfara State.  In a statement signed by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, DHQ, Maj. Gen. John Enenche on Thursday in Abuja. By Eze Mathins The Abia state chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday dissolved the party caucus and instituted a new caucus of the party with the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu, as the Chairman of the caucus. The election was held in Abuja and attended by former members of the caucus, including Chairman of the party, Donatus Nwankpa; Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Dr Uche Ogah; Deputy Majority Whip , House of Representatives, Nkiru Onyejiocha. Also in attendance were the spokesman of the House of Representatives , Benjamin Kalu; former senator representing Abia central , Senator Nkechi Nwogu; former senator Chris Adighije, former House of Representatives member Nnanna Kalu and Acho Obioma. By Aviashima Toom, Abuja     President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana Tuesday spoke with President Muhammadu Buhari, expressing his sincere apology for demolition of a building on the premises of Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana. A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, said in a telephone call, the Ghanaian leader told President Buhari that he has directed full investigation into the incident. Earlier in the day, it further emerged that some suspects had been arrested, and will be arraigned in court.

22- year-old man in court for having sex with a pig

By Doris Nnaji Ayokunbi Olaniyi on Tuesday appeared in an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having sex with a pig. The 22- year-old man was charged by the police charged with one count of unnatural offence. The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Opeyemi Olagunju, told the court that on April 2, at about 4 p.m. at Elewi – Odo , Ibadan , the defendant allegedly had sex with a pig against order of nature. He alleged that the defendant worked for Mrs Adenike Taiwo’s pig farm in Elewi – Odo area, Ibadan. He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 214 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II , Laws of Oyo State 2000. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence. The Defence Counsel, Mr Mumin Jimoh, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms. Jimoh said the owner of the pig has forgiven the defendant. A Obile of a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, disclosed this on Tuesday. The judge denied the news going round that the Edo State Governor, has been restrained from participating in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial Primaries in Edo State. Recall that Obaseki, who defected from the All Progressive Congress was granted waiver by the PDP recently. He made the disclosure during his inspection of an area demarcated for the construction of taxiway, apron, hangar and aircraft shelters at Bakuru village, for the newly proposed Nigerian Air force Central Flying School.
