APC Aspirant Amina Ibrahim Seeks Reservation of FCT Senate Seat for Women
A leading aspirant for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Amina Zanna Mina Ibrahim, has called on the leadership of the party to reserve the FCT senatorial ticket for a female candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Ibrahim made the appeal on Monday in Abuja while formally declaring her ambition at the APC secretariat, where she said her aspiration was anchored on service, inclusive development, and effective representation for residents of the FCT.
Addressing Journalists, she stated that her vision for the FCT was centred on “people, prosperity, and progress.”
“Today, I formally declare my aspiration to contest for the office of Senator representing the FCT under the APC in the 2027 election. My ambition is driven by commitment to service, inclusive development, and effective representation,” she said.
“I respectfully seek the support of the party leadership, stakeholders, delegates, and members as I embark on this journey.”
Speaking after the APC screening exercise, Ibrahim disclosed that she had already commenced grassroots consultations across the FCT, beginning from her ward.
“We are already into consultations. I just went to my ward to declare my intention to contest, and from there we will move to the area councils to consult with stakeholders, women groups, youth groups, and people at the grassroots,” she said.
Reacting to concerns over the growing number of aspirants vying for the seat, Ibrahim said she was not intimidated by the competition, stressing that her experience and understanding of the FCT distinguished her.
“I am not threatened at all. I bring capacity, commitment, and experience. I have lived in Abuja for almost 30 years. I understand the people, their needs, and their challenges. I am here to represent them and be their voice,” she added.
The APC aspirant also used the occasion to advocate stronger inclusion of women and youths in governance, insisting that women deserved greater representation in political leadership.
“I am pleading with the leadership of our great party to reserve the FCT Senate seat for women. We want inclusion of women and youths in governance. A man cannot fully be the voice of women, so let a woman represent women,” she said.
Ibrahim further reaffirmed her commitment to effective representation, constituency engagement, and grassroots development across the FCT.
A founder of multiple successful enterprises spanning real estate, manufacturing, fashion, and community development, Ibrahim said her private sector experience had equipped her with the practical knowledge needed for public service.
According to her, if elected senator, she would prioritise people-centred legislation, effective budget oversight, project monitoring, and sustained constituency engagement.
